Generally, the Google Home app operates according to plan.Â
It’s a breeze to get around and figure out.Â
Occasionally, things don’t work out as expected.Â
When I try to accomplish something in the app, it will frequently hang or freeze.Â
Though not a major issue, this merits a half-star deduction.Â
Nest Protect’s product line is one of the most important functions that is still missing from the new Nest app, which is trying to replace its predecessor.Â
Another half-star rating.
Equipment integration is relatively simple, but getting to operational setups is always a hunt, often necessitating a knowledge base search.Â
Access to the settings should be more prominently displayed on the main screen of the app.Â
Since I first started using it four years ago, the functionality has greatly improved, but there is still a long way to go.Â
We can’t always see or use the same equipment when there are multiple people in the house.
I replaced my Amazon Echo with a Google Home and installed Nest thermostats in my house.Â
There are two main points of contention:Â
I am unable to implement a new household routine.Â
In the same voice command, Google Home does not respond in the same way to different people.Â
For some reason, my Google Home app doesn’t allow me to share my Good Night routine with my wife.Â
Google Home does not go into Away mode when I say “Hey Google, everyone is leaving.” 2.Â
In the course of its research, it returns a surprising result.
WiFi.Â
Because my old router had malfunctioned, I had to purchase a brand new one.Â
The only thing that will connect is my Google hub.Â
Everything else won’t make any sense at all..Â
This app has been completely uninstalled, and all devices have been restarted.Â
Everything has been disconnected.Â
As of right now, this has been the worst experience, because when I’m working in my office and my house is cold, I can’t tell Google to turn on my heating system and bring it to 70 degrees.Â
When I get to the basement, I’ll have to manually set it.Â
In a smart home, that’s not the point.
This app was a great way to listen to music before deciding on Sonos.Â
To adjust the volume of every speaker after the settlement, it was expected to be a minor adjustment.Â
However, my speakers now only work in groups on occasion.Â
‘Works with Google’ was advertised on my Polk sound bar and JBL speakers, which I own.Â
“Somewhat works with Google” should be the new phrase of choice.Â
My recommendation is to avoid using Google Home as a multi-room music solution if at all possible.Â
It’s too bad, because it was working great before.
